Dario Amodei quit the best-funded seat in AI.
He left OpenAI's VP of Research role in December 2020. Roughly 14 colleagues followed within weeks, his sister Daniela among them. They founded Anthropic in February 2021 on $124 million of seed money.
Five years later, run-rate revenue has gone from $9 billion at the close of 2025 to above $65 billion by the end of July. Preliminary second-quarter revenue topped $11.5 billion, carrying Anthropic's first positive adjusted operating income. The confidential S-1 went in on June 1, into an October window.
Executives who leave over principle often get written off as too idealistic to build anything. That record closes the argument.
At Eagle Talon we read a founder on what they refuse to sell. We read that alongside their capital allocation record and the governance structure they chose to operate inside.
Amodei wrote the third into the charter. Anthropic is a Delaware public benefit corporation whose Long-Term Benefit Trust elects board seats outside shareholder control.
The S-1 disclosure I want is narrow. How many seats the Trust still elects after the offering, and whether a sunset or override applies. Unqualified seats mean the structure is real. Anything less was a private-market luxury.
The customer question is already in court. The Pentagon designated Anthropic a supply chain risk after it refused autonomous weapons or mass domestic surveillance uses. Defense contractors must now certify they do not use Claude. The designation stands while the case proceeds.
Secondary pricing implied roughly $1.2 trillion in July, against roughly $908 billion for OpenAI. Almost nobody is selling ahead of the listing, so that price carries scarcity as much as verdict.
A safety commitment is cheap to hold in private. The offering is where someone finally has to pay for it.
If those Trust seats survive the S-1 intact, are you more willing to own Anthropic, or less?
