Our Story

A firm built on a single conviction:
the decisions of the people who run a company determine whether its value is created or destroyed.

Across every cycle, one pattern has held: the decisive variable was rarely the business model alone. It was the leadership. Eagle Talon Partners was built to study that variable with rigor, and to act on it before the market does.

01 The Origin

Founded on a pattern others overlooked.

Eagle Talon Partners was founded by Karim Mawji. Early in his career investing in public market securities, he saw what conventional analysis kept missing: it stopped exactly where the real risk began, with the person whose judgment the company ultimately rides on.

Karim spent two decades in New York building and refining his approach. He runs it today from Naples, Florida: diligence on leaders and boards, fused with bottom-up company fundamentals, to anticipate the success or failure of the people who run public companies.

Today Eagle Talon works with current and former CEOs of public and private companies, ultra-high-net-worth principals, family offices, and endowments. Many are entrepreneurs and executives who recognize the approach because they have lived it.

02 The Name

Why the eagle.
Why the talons.

The name tells you how the firm works. The eagle and the talons are two halves of the same hunt: what we look for, and what we do when we find it.

The Eye

Vision

The eagle sees what others cannot: fine detail at great distance, the small movement on the ground. We look for what the market has not yet priced: a new chief executive who does not fit the seat, incentives that point the wrong way, a board that will not hold its CEO to account.

The Grip

Conviction

The talon marks the moment of commitment. An eagle does not snatch at everything in sight. It hunts, patiently, until it finds a worthwhile target. Then it waits for the right moment, strikes once, and holds it tightly with its talons until the work is done. That is how we run the portfolio: concentrated and deliberate, patient by default, but never slow to act when the facts change.

We hunt. We study. We conclude. Then we act with conviction.

03 Mission

To pursue sustainable long-term alpha, and to protect and grow our clients' capital responsibly.

We exist to pursue strong, differentiated returns while protecting our clients' capital, so the families and institutions who trust us can compound their wealth over decades, not quarters. The edge behind that work is one durable insight: the decisions and actions of leaders drive returns in the business and in the stock.

04 Vision

To establish leadership analysis as a recognized investment discipline. And to keep advancing our process and our technology so that the work consistently produces actionable insights and alpha.

That means judging leaders on what actually predicts outcomes: their track record, their incentives, and their judgment under pressure. Work of that depth does not scale, and a concentrated strategy stops working when it gets too big. So we grow deliberately, and only with partners who share our conviction and our time horizon.

A Note from the Founder

"We don't attempt to predict markets. We aim to predict peoples' behavior. People drive the growth of businesses, and markets are made of the opinions and actions of people.

When I founded Eagle Talon, the goal was singular and it has not changed: study the leaders of public companies as closely as the market studies the companies themselves, and invest where that work gives us an edge."

Earlier in his career Karim ran special-situations and short portfolios at Morgan Stanley, Scout Capital, Perennial Investors, and Healy Circle Capital. He founded two firms before Eagle Talon: Dentonia Park Capital Management, an event-driven hedge fund, and Paragon Intel, a research and financial-technology firm. He is a CFA charterholder and a Chartered Accountant, with an MBA from the Rotman School at the University of Toronto.

Karim Mawji also serves as Chief Investment Officer for leadership strategies at Prime Family Office, a closely aligned partner.

Three words we hold ourselves to.

Discretion

We work privately with a small number of principals. What we learn, we keep in confidence.

Conviction

We take a position when the research earns it. What we own, we hold with conviction. When companies and leaders don't meet our standards, we would rather hold cash than settle for positions we do not believe in.

Continuity

One method, guided by the same judgment through many market cycles. Partnerships measured in decades, not quarters.

The rest of the story is best told in person.

We work with a small number of current and former CEOs of public and private companies, ultra-high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and endowments, people who think about leadership the way we do. The next step is a direct conversation with Karim, a discussion to see whether the discipline fits how you allocate.
